Alt Food Programming on IFC
Now that Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations is on hiatus, how are you going to get your hipster food programming fix? It certainly not going to be from Andrew Zimmern stuffing his face with third world bugs…
Your best option is going to be Food Party and Dinner with the Band both of which premiere tonight on IFC. Thu Tran is the host of Food Party, and she comes across as a more artistic and authentic east coast version of Charlyne Yi. It’s definitely a surreal show that will leave you in a mood to get creative with your food. But Dinner with the Band is what I’ll be most excited to watch. The host Sam Mason is one of New York hottest chefs with a rock’n roll heart. In each episode he cooks a fabulous meal, planned and prepped with the musical guest tastes in mind. While my cooking skills aren’t quite up to recreating one of Sam Mason’s meals, it’s fun just to watch and hopefully pick up a trick or two for the next time I attempt a culinary creation of my own. Rufus Wainwright is the big guest tonight for the premiere episode, but I’m looking forward to some lively country music in the second episode when The Devil Makes Three is the guest band.
Food Party - tonight 10 & 10:15pm
Dinner With the Band - tonight 10:30pm

When it comes to cooking tips, I would much rather get my information from Anthony Bourdain and the Travel Channel than any show on the Food Network. This week Tony visits the chefs of Scarpetta, Le Bernardin, Les Halles, BLT Burger and Per Se.

What do Anthony Bourdain and Roger Greeberg’s brother have in common? They are both visiting Vietnam!
I’m guessing that it would be more fun to travel with Anthony Bourdain than Roger Greenberg’s uptight brother and family. Don’t you agree?
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, Vietnam: Central Highlands

If there were a “Slow Movement” for TV, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations would be a perfect example for the genre. Each segment of the Provence episode was better than the next, snacking on wine, cheese and meat at a cafe, touring a ancient vineyard, and strolling on the shady side of the street. It brings calm, peace and so much enjoyment to a hectic day of modern life.
