I’m a stylish American, I’ve been forcing myself to be into soccer since 2004.
Tom Waits and John Lurie play the ultimate hipsters in Jim Jarmusch’s 1986 indie film Down By Law. As a pimp and a DJ both framed and locked up in a Louisiana jail, they really are a couple of cool cats in a certain amount of trouble. But the action, and heart of this film really kicks in when they are joined by Italian tourist Roberto Benigni. Roberto or “Bob” as he ends up being called is the glue that holds the group together with his cultural naivety and warm hearted personality.
This film is the perfect low-fi entertainment for when you want to (sort of) unplug from the grid. All the cultural references are based in art and literature rather than YouTube videos, which is pleasantly refreshing.

60% goat, 40% cow…
Josh reviews his sales pitch as he goes to deliver Beekman 1802 Blaak Cheese to the hipster food purveyors in brownstone Brooklyn.
Nick Cassavetes looks so much like his father. I think Entourage still is allowed a little hipster cred, even though it’s on the “douche” side of the spectrum.
Now that Bethenny lives downtown she can bond with all the young, nerdy, hipster food bloggers.
Markus Klinko really loves his camera, and who wouldn’t when it’s composed of 1945 German camera parts and a Mammoth tusk?
If you were ever thinking about leaving “the city” and starting a fully sustainable farm project in the country, you might want to check out The Fabulous Beekman Boys. Josh Kilmer Purcell and Brent Ridge were a hip urban couple who bought a fabulous historic property/farm as a weekend getaway and end up trying to make a go of the lifestyle. The task they have taken on might end up being very similar to couples who take on home renovations, begin bickering about the process as a result watch their relationship fall apart just as they have the home of their dreams. While this might be a depressing prospect for the show, at least you get to watch some cute (and yummy) farm animals in the process. Good luck to you boys!
